In simple terms, shadow work is the process of getting to know the parts of yourself that you usually ignore, hide, or don’t like to admit are there.

These parts—called your "shadow"—can include things like jealousy, anger, insecurity, shame, fear, etc. They’re parts of your personality that were often pushed down or denied, maybe because they were seen as "bad" or unacceptable when you were growing up.

  • Everyone has a "shadow self"—it’s not evil or wrong, just hidden.

  • Shadow work means being honest with yourself and looking at what’s in that shadow.

  • It helps you understand why you react a certain way, have certain triggers, or feel stuck in patterns.

  • The goal isn’t to get rid of these parts, but to accept and heal them so you can be more whole and balanced.

Example:

Let’s say you get really angry when someone ignores you. Shadow work might help you realize that deep down, you fear being abandoned or not being good enough. That awareness helps you respond differently instead of just reacting with anger.
